October Luncheon

Vanessa O’Donnell

Vanessa-ODonnell_Owner-of-Ooh-La-La-Bakery_-Image-by-Kimberly-Park-resized-for-HFF.png

For  Vanessa  O’Donnell,  pastry chef,  restaurateur and  native Texan, life  keeps getting sweeter.

“I’ve  always had  a strong interest  in baking,” says the  native Texan who was born  in El Paso, raised in Sealy  and baked her first memorable dessert  when she was nine years old. “Dewberry  cobbler, made with dewberries picked fresh  from the fence,” she fondly recalls.

But  it wasn’t  until O’Donnell  experienced a real  sense of restaurant life,  in the pastry kitchen at Brennan’s  of Houston, that she discovered her true  calling. Recognizing her passion to pursue  “the sweet life,” O’Donnell enrolled in the Art  Institute of Houston’s Baking and Pastry program.

Shortly  before graduating  in 2004, O’Donnell  began an internship at  the Houston Country Club.  There she continued to perfect  her pastry skills for three years.  It was her experience and success acquired  at HCC that provided O’Donnell the confidence   she needed to take a sweet leap of faith in creating  Ooh La La, a boutique dessert bakery located in Katy, TX.

“For  a lot  of people,  launching a dessert  bakery at the age of  26 might be intimidating,”  says O’Donnell. “But coming from  a family of entrepreneurs, it was  the natural next step. I knew that  if I followed my passion, I would have  a good shot at success.”

Ekpe Wade

Ekpe holds an M.D., MABC and LPC. She currently works as a Telemedicine Physician, specializing in Family Medicine with Doctor on Demand.

For as long as Ekpe can remember she has had the desire to work in medicine. This desire, and a full basketball scholarship, led her to study Pre- Medicine/Biology at the University of Missouri-Columbia where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. Ekpe went on to receive her M.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. Shortly after graduation, Ekpe moved to Houston to complete her residency in Family Medicine at Memorial Family Medicine and was named Chief Resident her third year.

In 2011, after a number of years working as a physician in Family Medicine, Ekpe had the opportunity to serve on a mission trip in response to the earthquake in Haiti. During her time in Haiti, she was inspired and reminded of her desire to treat more than the physical wounds. A short time later Ekpe received her Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling (MABC) from Dallas Theological Seminary and became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Ekpe has had the unique opportunity to use her training in medicine and counseling to treat and provide guidance to her patients in a physical, mental and spiritual capacity. Tara Royer Steele

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 11.33.50 AM.png

I'm Tara Royer Steele. I live in Brenham, Texas, but at times I feel I live in Round Top, Texas. I love our heavenly father and fall in love with him more and more every day. He amazes me with his love, mercy, kindness and grace. He pours out abundantly. I'm married to Rick Steele, he's my best friend, my business partner in everything and he leads so well. We have two boys, Brayden, and Bentley!  they are a joy.  joy.  joy. They are straight up boys. Dirt, baseballs, dirt, footballs, video games and full of snuggles for their momma.

I grew up in our family business, Royers Round Top Cafe & am the cafe's catering director. Together we have Royers Pie Haven & Two Sparrows Roasting Company in Round Top, Texas. They are businesses built around a place to rest, great food, drink & relationships. We also have the brave gathering, our favorite. We hold yearly camps for men and women to gather, rest, to strip back the layers added by the earthly world and get back to who they were originally created to be. We hold the camps at amazing venues throughout round top, but recently bought 7 acres to host camps. Over the last 31 years in round top, I have gone through hard things & when I truly began to KNOW & understand God and his plan, there was a shift in everything. I was able to learn from my life experiences and share them with others. I love to meet people right where they are & just love.

Don't miss our April dinner! Tara is going to be amazing.

Lincee Ray

Lincee Ray Headshot.jpg

Lincee began blogging accidentally when she wrote a recap for the beloved show everyone loves to hate — The Bachelor. What began as a place for closeted fans to commune and discuss the wonder that is Our Host Chris Harrison slowly morphed into a place where Lincee shared stories about everyday life.

One day, her Bachelor recap landed on the desk of an editor at Entertainment Weekly. That sweet woman quickly deduced that Lincee was a pop culture weirdo who probably watches all of the teenybopper shows on The CW. She was right. When she's not watching TV for a living, you can probably find her speaking to various groups of women, including business and church groups. If all else fails, look for her in a darkened movie theater or at a live music venue.

Lincee taught herself to say the ABCs backwards as a child. It kills at parties. She really does hate green beans and is a little too enthusiastic about Netflix, mix tapes and holiday-themed Oreos. She also believes that it’s important to tell your story—even the ones that make you seem a little crazy.

Don't miss our first luncheon of the semester! Lincee is going to be amazing.

AshLee is an 80s-born babe who loves sharing her thoughts, opinions, and fashion! When she was a kid — too young to drive and before the world of Pinterest — AshLee would walk to the grocery store every month and buy all the fashion magazines she could carry home. She would sit on her floor, cut out outfit images, and paste them on a page, creating a book that would be labeled for each one of my girlfriends. It goes without saying that fashion runs deep in her heart.

Now AshLee travels the world and shares her fashion and experiences with others. AshLee's story is unique in that she experienced fame after appearing on The Bachelor in 2013.
